Our JoinTogether Movement & Exercise Group meets online and provides adults with an opportunity to hear from knowledgeable speakers, exchange experiences, information, hints and tips.

The group is run by NRAS volunteer Gill Amos, who has RA herself.  Gill has a background in executive coaching and leadership development and as a trained dancer, has always enjoyed physical activities and exercise including walking, pilates, yoga and gym. She has experienced having to curtail and adapt physical activities due to RA but has found the benefits of continuing with adapted exercise when symptoms flare as well as enjoying the social and supportive side of classes.

If you’re interested in exploring the benefits of movement and exercise while living with IA, and would like to connect with like-minded individuals, join us for a friendly, informal meeting! Each session will feature a unique focus, covering topics such as low-impact activities, returning to sports, or engaging in high-impact exercises.

Our next meeting

Tuesday 20th January, 6pm

Host: Gill Amos, NRAS volunteer

Guest: Catherine McCoy, Occupational Therapist, Hand Therapy & Rheumatology Team, Salford. Catherine has worked as an Occupational Therapist (OT) in Salford since qualification in 2001. She is a therapy lead in the Hand Therapy and Rheumatology team at Salford treating a range of rheumatological conditions alongside orthoplastic upper limb conditions.

Topic: The hands and wrists are often among the first places rheumatoid arthritis makes itself felt, which is why protecting movement and caring for these joints is so important. In this group meeting we will explore:

  • Gentle strengthening exercises to keep your joints moving
  • Practical tips for everyday hand and wrist care
  • A personal story of recovery after hand surgery from NRAS Information and Support Co- Ordinator, Kate.

Our speaker’s session will be followed by a chance to ask questions and connect with others at the meeting
