April 2021

From May 2020 to February 2021, over 15,00 participants have given information through an online baseline questionnaire and further monthly questionnaires, with the aim of understanding more about susceptibility for developing COVID-19.

It is already known that those at risk of developing more severe cases of COVID-19 include the older population, male sex, people with a high body mass index (BMI), black or Asian ethnicity and those with underlying health conditions. Whether these factors also influenced susceptibility to catching the virus in the first place was uncertain.

446 of participants (2.9%) caught COVID-19 during the nine month study period. Among the findings of the study were that Asian/Asian British ethnicity increased the risks of developing COVID-19, as did having a higher body mass index (BMI).

A full report on the study’s findings can be read here.

There is also a webinar discussing the report’s findings, which can be viewed here.
