NRAS are pleased to share that Kirsty Young, who presented the BBC Radio 4’s Desert Island Discs programme and more recently was the principal anchor in the coverage of the state funeral of Queen Elizabeth II, is supporting NRAS in our BBC Radio 4 charity Appeal.

As Kirsty is someone who was diagnosed with rheumatoid arthritis (RA) in 2018, we invited her to be the voice of the appeal and she was thrilled to offer her support to NRAS. We shared with Kirsty, the story of Dee, and Dee’s painful day to day journey with RA. Kirsty was moved by Dee’s story of how she had to give up work and what it meant to her to find such vital support and information offered by NRAS following a call to our helpline.

I lost my sense of self, my sense of humour and for a time my career. The chronic pain was horrendous. It felt as though there was broken glass in my joints.

Hopefully hearing the appeal on BBC Radio 4 will help encourage people with RA, and their families, to seek out NRAS so that we can start supporting and informing them in the same way we have helped thousands of others over the last 22 years. People rely on the evidenced based information and guidance provided by the NRAS website, our helpline, and our free self-management programme, SMILE, to mention but a few of the services we provide.

By sharing the appeal link with your friends, colleagues and family via your own social media platforms or just by talking to others and encouraging them to listen to the appeal you will be really helping your charity. Please ask people to listen in and donate if they are able to, it’s only though the support of all our community that we can continue to be here for all those who need us right now and in the future. Striving for life without limitations.
