Digital Marketing Manager

NRAS is looking for a talented and experienced, creative Digital Marketing Manager. The Digital Marketing team are key to the continued success and growth of NRAS. They sit within the wider Fundraising, Marketing and Data directorate and work collaboratively with the service delivery teams to provide the best possible end user experience for our multiple audiences. Our audiences and beneficiaries include members, the wider RA public, supporters, volunteers, influencers, rheumatology and primary care health professionals etc. Our digital marketing strategy is vital in our ambition to increase the reach of the organisation, expand the use of our vital services and drive donations/income.

This position reports to the Chief Operating Officer.

Main Remit of the Role

  • Oversee the digital marketing function at NRAS which includes our two websites, (nras.org.uk and jia.org.uk) email marketing, online advertising, social media
  • Create an innovative collection of video content designed to engage, inform and educate. This is a strategic pillar of the charity in 2024
  • Have a creative vision and be able to convert that into campaign messages/promotional activity.
  • Be responsive to social media activity as it relates to our beneficiaries and campaigns e.g. engaging with influencers, following key opinion leaders etc.
  • Create and implement a digital marketing strategy to raise awareness of NRAS and its work to broaden its supporter base and engage a wider audience
  • Working with teams to deliver innovative digital marketing solutions that meet business and audience needs
  • To oversee the organisation’s websites and their ongoing design and development, working with all teams to ensure they are kept updated and refreshed
  • To contribute to the strategic planning of the organisation’s external (and internal) communications
  • Look externally for digital marketing trends, sharing this knowledge internally and set best practice standards for digital marketing at NRAS
  • Work with external stakeholders who provide services to support the technical elements of the website (facilitating donations/payments/shop/integration with our database – Salesforce)
  • Work with our Head of Data on digital projects which involves use of Salesforce to support our email marketing activity

Key Responsibilities

Social Media

  • Create and implement social media campaigns as necessary, in partnership with the Chief Operating Officer
  • Work with the SMT and Chief Operating Officer to ensure digital marketing activity is reflecting the various strands of work being undertaken at any time
  • Liaise with various teams and implement paid social media campaigns based on their requirements
  • Optimise campaigns, ensuring that creative and messaging resonates with our online audiences and is impactful in achieving objectives
  • Work as part of the steering group for our large-scale awareness raising campaigns to pull together ideas, plans, execution and success measurements.
  • Measure our impact on social media and use this to inform further planning and strategic decision making
  • Assist with the delivery of digital projects from other internal stakeholders

Website Optimisation

  • Ensure the NRAS website and the JIA Website are kept updated and refreshed by allowing others the ability to update the website in a organised manner
  • Work with the website developer and our Salesforce Partner to ensure functionality of the site is optimised and working efficiently
  • Ensure that our website is integrating effectively with our database
  • Monitor activity on the website via Google Analytics to set benchmarks and contribute to monthly reports
  • Measure the reach and impact of our website and make recommendations for improvements

Email Marketing

  • Assist the Marketing Manager to plan, create and implement effective email campaigns using Pardot (our marketing automation tool)

Online Advertising

  • Work with an external agency to optimise our Google Ads grant
  • Work with our current digital marketing agency, monitoring PPC, SEO, Media Buying and Conversion Tracking activity

Other Duties

  • Develop and implement a digital marketing strategy
  • Work with colleagues from across the charity to ensure all the charity’s activity is represented across social media platforms
  • Manage the digital marketing budget
  • Any other duties as requested by the Chief Operating Officer
  • Some travel (UK based) with occasional overnight stays
  • Occasional out of hours working, including weekends
Qualifications and Skills

QualificationsA-level/AS level– Degree level
Institute of Digital Marketing or – Chartered Institute of Marketing, or equivalent experience
Experience– Demonstrable online and social media experience
– WordPress
– Email marketing using any mass email platform such as Mailchimp, Pardot, dotdigital Engagement Cloud    
– Development of websites
– Agency management experience specifically looking at PPC, SEO, Media Buying and Conversion Tracking
– Marketing automation
– Implementation of a digital marketing strategy and campaign development  
Knowledge and Skills– Excellent written and oral communication skills
– Proficient use of Adobe creative suite
– Proficient use of social media platforms e.g. Twitter (X), Facebook and Instagram
– Use of content management systems
– Knowledge of HTML & CSS
– Proficient use of databases
– Use of Form Assembly, Spout social, Pardot
– Digital end-to-end supporter journeys

– Willingness to travel and work out of hours when required
