Introducing our new Symptom Checker14 September 2025 NRAS are proud to announce we have launched a new online tool aimed at helping individuals identify early signs of rheumatoid arthritis (RA), a chronic autoimmune condition that affects around 400,000 people in the UK. medac Pharma provided arm’s length funding for this project. medac Pharma has not had influence in the project, or the development of any associated materials. RA occurs when the immune system mistakenly attacks the lining of the joints, leading to inflammation, pain, and swelling. If left untreated, it can cause long-term joint damage and affect other organs such as the lungs, heart, and eyes. Early diagnosis is crucial to managing the disease and preventing irreversible harm. To support this, we have introduced the “Is it RA?” Symptom Checker, a user-friendly online resource developed with input from leading rheumatology experts. The tool presents five key questions designed to help users assess their symptoms and determine whether they should seek medical advice. “The ‘Is it RA?’ Symptom Checker will be an invaluable tool for people experiencing unexplained soreness, swelling, and stiffness lasting more than six weeks,” Peter Foxton, NRAS CEO “The ‘Is it RA?’ Symptom Checker will be an invaluable tool for people experiencing unexplained soreness, swelling, and stiffness lasting more than six weeks,” said Peter Foxton, CEO of NRAS. “We want to empower people to take control of their health, start conversations about unexplained pain, and seek timely support. Early diagnosis is essential, and this tool can help guide people toward the right next steps.” The launch of the symptom checker coincides with our RA Awareness Week 2025, taking place from 15th to 19th September. Throughout the week, we will be promoting the tool widely to raise awareness of RA and other autoimmune conditions that often go undiagnosed or misunderstood. By increasing public understanding of RA and encouraging early action, we hope to improve outcomes for those living with the condition and reduce the time to diagnosis.
