Mental Health Awareness Week 13-19 May 2024

17 May 2024

This year, NRAS are teaming up with Mental Health Foundation and We Are Undefeatable for Mental Health Awareness Week. This year’s focus is Movement: Moving more for our mental health.

Mental Health Awareness Week runs from the 13th to 19th May 2024. This year’s focus is on ways to get moving throughout the day which can help boost your mood.

Staying active with a long term health condition can have its ups and downs and it can be challenging to find a way to keep physically active in a way which is accessible for you. We Are Undefeatable have come up with 5 easy 1-minute exercises to help you keep active. Moving is not just about high intensity exercise but a way in which you can fit small movements into your daily routine.

There are many ways in which you can try and get some more movement into your day:

  • Starting your day with a spring in your step – put on some music and dance
  • A lunchtime walk around your neighbourhood
  • Squats whilst waiting for the kettle to boil, (if you are able to)
  • Using a tin of beans to do some evening bicep curls

Moving is a great way to improve our mood, reduce stress and can even help us to sleep better at night. If you’ve not been able to exercise for a while, think about smaller activities or move parts of your body that you are comfortable with.

We Are Undefeatable are an organisation which supports people with long term health conditions. Their video below shows ways in which you can move five in five to help get more active.
