Our Swansea NRAS Group online meeting is scheduled to take place on Monday 7th September at 7.30pm  

Beyond Words: A Creative Session for People Living with RA

In this session, creativity is used as a way of exploring what it means to live with rheumatoid arthritis, including the physical realities and the emotional landscape that so often comes with it.

You do not need any artistic ability or experience. This is not about making something beautiful. It is about using image and colour as a way of expressing what can sometimes be difficult to put into words.

The session will begin with a short guided visualisation, after which you will be invited to create an image in response to what came up for you. There will then be an opportunity to share in small breakout groups, followed by a wider group discussion.

The session will be facilitated by Charlotte Farish-Edwards, a qualified counsellor and person-centred creative arts therapist, who was diagnosed with RA in 2020.

What you will need to bring:

• Paper
• Coloured pencils, felt tips, or oil pastels

Please also make sure you are in a quiet, private space where you will not be disturbed.

Working creatively in this way can be a surprisingly powerful experience. It sometimes brings feelings to the surface that we were not expecting. This is a normal and often valuable part of the process, but please do bear it in mind as you prepare for the session.
